BAG BODY:

Classy Small Bag Crochet Pattern – Bag size can be modified by adding additional numbers of stitches.

Row 0: ch 36, turn [to change the bag height make more chains here]
Row 1: sc in the second chain from the hook, hdc in the next chain, dc in the remaining stitches from the previous round until the last two, hdc in the penultimate chain, sc in the last ch, turn [total 35]
Row 2: ch, sc in the next stitch, hdc in the next stitch, dc in the remaining stitches from the previous round until the last two, hdc in the penultimate stitch, sc in the last stitch, turn [total 35]
Row 3: ch 2, dc in each stitch from previous round, turn [total 35]
Row 4 – 12*: Repeat row 3
Row 13 – 14 (before last – last): Repeat row 2

Note: Please repeat until you reach your desired bag width. I recommend making an even number of rows.

After this you should have a rectangle. Please fold it according to the diagram, and check if your bag size is sufficient for you!

BAG CLOSURE

Row 1: Turn your work as is shown on the diagram and sc along the side [1 sc in each sc side, two sc in every dc side], turn, [total 24 sc]
Row 2: ch 1, dec, sc in each stitch from previous round, turn [total 23]
Row 3 – 13*: repeat the Round 2 until 11 sc left

*Note: If you want to make the closure look more like a triangle, continue with decreasing. If you changed the bag length, please continue decreasing until you reach your desired look for the closure

BAG SEWING:

OPTION 1: Traditional sewing
Fold the bag, as is show in the graph. Sew both sides. Make a border of sc around your bag opening. Weave the ends in.

OPTION 2: “No sewing”
Row 1: Turn your work 90 deg, sc 1 in each sc line from bag closure [13 sc total]
Row 2: sc 1 in each sc/hdc/dc until the folding line (the middle one) [18 sc total]
Fold the bag as shown on the diagram. Make sure that row 3 is made on the wrong side of your project.
Row 3: sl st to join front and the back of the body together [17 sl st total]
Row 4: sc 1 in sc side, *sc 2 in dc side,
*repeat until the last two stitches left, then sc 1 in sc side [24 sc total]
Row 5: sc 1 in each dc until the folding line (the middle one) [18 sc total]
Fold the bag as shown on the diagram. Make sure that row 6 is made on the wrong side of your project.
Row 6: sl st to join front and the back of the body together [17 sl st total]
Row 7: sc 1 in each sc line from bag closure, ij [13 sc total]

1: Start with a knot, but do not tighten it too much. (Result shown in the picture on the left, 1 loop on the hook).
2: Continue with one loop on the hook. Insert your hook under the lower part (pointed with an arrow) and yarn over through both loops on your hook.

Note: One loop should always stay on the hook!!

3: Insert your hook under the top loop (pointed with an arrow) and yo through both loops on the hook.

4: Repeat step 3 (going under the top loop and yo). After a couple of rounds the pattern becomes more visible.
Follow the pattern to achieve your desired length.

Pull the ends of the strap to the inside of the bag and knot to secure, 3rd row down from the bag opening, as shown by the red dots
